Certify Breaks Through with Strong Gold Coast Victory
Shailer Racing owners were rewarded with a well-deserved victory at the Gold Coast, with Certify producing a tough and sustained performance to break his maiden over 1700 metres under Andrew Mallyon.
Jumping away a touch awkwardly, Certify was momentarily on the back foot in the early stages, however he recovered well to find a comfortable position one off the fence, settling just behind the leading pair.
The race proved to be slowly run through the middle stages, which brought its challenges, with the gelding wanting to over-race slightly as the tempo slackened. Despite this, he continued to travel soundly and was able to build into his work as the field approached the turn.
Asked to improve from the 600 metres, he was taken three wide around the bend and made his move earlier than ideal, surging to the lead upon straightening. From there, it became a true staying effort, and to his credit, he sustained a strong gallop all the way to the line.
It was a performance full of merit, particularly given he was conceding six kilograms to the leader, who had enjoyed a more economical run in transit. Under the circumstances, it was a tough and deserving win.
The run should bring him on nicely from a fitness perspective, and there were encouraging signs he will continue to appreciate stepping out over further distances as his preparation progresses.
It was pleasing to see him shed the maiden tag, and importantly, he has returned to the stables safe and sound. The team will continue to monitor his recovery over the coming days before confirming plans for his next start.
Congratulations to his ownership group on a rewarding result and an exciting platform to build on moving forward.
