Iconic Scenes has made the perfect start to his racing career, delivering a professional debut victory at Eagle Farm and adding another two-year-old winner to the famous Cambridge Stud silks of Sir Brendan Lindsay.
It was a debut to remember for our exciting two-year-old Iconic Scenes, who kicked off his racing career in winning style at Eagle Farm, producing a performance full of professionalism and promise under leading jockey Ryan Maloney.
The victory was made all the more special by the familiar sight of Sir Brendan Lindsay's iconic Cambridge Stud silks returning to the winner's circle, marking another exciting two-year-old success for our stable in the famous colours.
Bred by Cambridge Stud, Iconic Scenes races with the renowned New Zealand operation retaining a share in the gelding, alongside a wonderful group of loyal, long-standing Shailer Racing owners. It's a partnership we're incredibly proud of, and a privilege to share another memorable result with connections who have placed such tremendous faith in our team.
From the moment he arrived on course, Iconic Scenes handled the occasion like a seasoned racehorse. Despite a slight delay prior to the start, the young gelding remained composed and unfazed, an encouraging sign of the temperament and maturity he has shown throughout his early education.
Jumping cleanly from the barriers, Iconic Scenes allowed Ryan Maloney to take up an ideal position just behind the leader, where he travelled comfortably and maintained a lovely rhythm throughout the middle stages.
From there, it was a patient and perfectly judged ride by Ryan, who waited for the right moment to ask for an effort before timing his run to perfection. Iconic Scenes responded willingly, getting his nose down right where it mattered most to secure a memorable debut victory.
Adding further merit to the performance were his solid overall and final 600-metre times, particularly given the track conditions, reinforcing the quality of his first race-day appearance.
For our team, it was an incredibly satisfying result, not only to see him win at his first attempt, but to witness the professionalism he displayed throughout the entire occasion.
With his maiden victory now behind him, attention turns to what promises to be an exciting next chapter.
His debut prize money is expected to be sufficient to qualify him for January's Karaka Millions, presenting an exciting potential target should we elect to head down that path. But, as a QTIS-eligible horse, there are also several attractive opportunities closer to home, giving us plenty of flexibility when planning his next assignment.
For now, our priority is allowing Iconic Scenes to enjoy a well-earned break before determining the most suitable pathway for his continued development.
It's always special to celebrate a winner, but seeing a young horse make such a professional start to his racing career, particularly in colours that carry so much history and prestige, makes the occasion even more rewarding.
Congratulations to Cambridge Stud and all connections of Iconic Scenes on a fantastic debut victory. We're incredibly grateful for the continued support of our loyal owners and proud to share another exciting chapter with the Cambridge Stud team. Here's hoping there are many more memorable moments to come!
