The Epic Journey has made the perfect start to his racing career, claiming victory on debut at Lismore and delivering a performance full of determination, resilience and exciting potential.
Stepping out over 1400 metres for his first race start, The Epic Journey was only fairly away from the barriers, settling in the second half of the field under senior jockey Danny Peisley.
Travelling comfortably through the early stages, he was asked to improve when the pressure went on, becoming the first runner off the bridle as the field began to quicken.
However, what followed was a display of genuine determination from the three-year-old, who continued to respond to Danny's urgings and gradually worked his way into contention.
Finding the better part of the track, The Epic Journey sustained a strong finishing effort, digging deep in the closing stages to get his nose in front right where it mattered most.
It was a performance that carried plenty of merit, particularly given the way the race unfolded, and one that was incredibly satisfying for our team.
We've always held a positive opinion of The Epic Journey, and to see him deliver on that promise at his very first race start was particularly rewarding.
While there is still plenty of development and maturity to come, his debut performance has only strengthened our belief that he could develop into an exciting staying prospect.
Looking further ahead, we believe The Epic Journey has the potential to be well suited to races over greater distances, with the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival firmly in our sights as a possible long-term objective.
With several attractive staying races available for three-year-olds throughout the carnival, we are hopeful that a patient and measured approach over the coming months will allow him to develop into a competitive prospect for those assignments.
It's always special to celebrate a winner, but seeing a young horse deliver on debut, particularly one we have held in such high regard at home, makes the occasion even more rewarding.
Congratulations to all connections of The Epic Journey on a memorable debut victory. We look forward to seeing where this exciting young horse can take us!
