Il Fratello delivered a dominant victory at Grafton on Tuesday, rewarding the patience of his connections with an impressive display that suggests the best is still ahead of him.
Parading in fantastic order, Il Fratello was noticeably more relaxed and comfortable in himself prior to the race, an encouraging sign of the progress he continues to make both physically and mentally.
After beginning well from the barriers, jockey Danny Peisley followed our instructions to settle him off a solid early tempo, allowing the gelding to find a comfortable rhythm through the middle stages.
It proved to be a perfectly executed ride, with Il Fratello travelling strongly into contention from the 600-metre mark. Once Danny presented him into the clear, he responded with an impressive turn of foot, powering away from his rivals to secure a convincing victory.
While the authority of the win was particularly pleasing, perhaps the most exciting aspect of the performance is knowing that Il Fratello remains a long way from the finished product.
Despite his dominant display, he still showed signs of greenness once finding himself in front, wanting to shift back towards the running rail. It's a reminder that the penny hasn't quite dropped just yet, and there is still considerable mental maturity and improvement to come.
For our team, that's an exciting prospect. To see him win with such authority while still learning his craft gives us plenty of confidence in his potential moving forward.
It's incredibly rewarding to see Il Fratello beginning to put everything together, and we're excited to see what he can achieve as he continues to develop and mature.
Congratulations to all connections on a fantastic victory. We look forward to what lies ahead for this promising gelding!
