Punjabi Landing Goes Back-to-Back with Another Strong Metro Victory

Punjabi Landing continued his outstanding form with another impressive performance, proving too strong once again as he secured back-to-back metropolitan victories in style.

Dropping back to midweek grade following his Saturday metropolitan success, the talented stayer was tasked with carrying more weight this time around, but rose to the challenge impressively under another well-rated ride from Mark Du Plessis.

Punjabi Landing was calm and relaxed prior to the race, although he was slightly slow into stride as the barriers opened. From there, Mark allowed him to find his rhythm through the middle stages, settling in the second half of the field before gradually improving into the race approaching the home turn.

Able to shift away from the fence before straightening, Punjabi Landing once again launched his run as the widest runner in the field and sustained a powerful finishing burst all the way to the line. His ability to maintain a strong gallop under the rising weight made the performance one full of merit, as he wore down his rivals late to secure another deserved victory.

The rain that arrived earlier in the day, downgrading the track to a Soft 6, certainly played into his favour, and the gelding again showed just how effective he is when able to get his toe into the ground.

Following successive metropolitan wins, the team will now look towards stakes company, with Punjabi Landing on track to potentially contest the Group 3 Premier’s Cup over 2400m on May 30, carrying prizemoney of $200,000. Should the wet weather continue to arrive, it looks an ideal next challenge for the in-form stayer.
