Winchman Strikes on Home Soil

Winchman delivered a well-deserved victory on his home track today, claiming Race 7 — the Gold Coast Bowls & Community Class 3 Plate over 1000m at Aquis Park Gold Coast — under another strong ride from Danny Peisley.

Returning second-up from a spell, Winchman showed the benefit of his first-up run and produced an encouraging performance to return to the winner’s stall in front of his home crowd.

Beginning fairly, Winchman settled in behind the leading horses and was able to find a comfortable rhythm throughout the early and middle stages. As the field turned for home, Danny navigated him into the preferred part of the track and, once balanced, Winchman showed a sharp turn of foot to let down strongly and charge over the top of his rivals.

The victory was a pleasing step forward from his first-up effort, where he showed good promise, and the team was delighted to see him take the next step and put it all together today.

Importantly, he has pulled up well following the win and looks set to continue improving with racing. The team will now assess the handicapper’s assessment before deciding on his next assignment, however another similar race — particularly with some give in the track — looks like it could suit him well as he aims for back-to-back victories.

Congratulations to all of Winchman’s connections on a fantastic home-track win. We look forward to seeing what is ahead for this gelding.
